In 1984, hundreds of thousands of Quebecers cheered John Paul II, the last pope to visit Quebec. Masses were then packed, despite the decline of faith that began during the Quiet Revolution. But nearly 40 years later, a few days before the arrival of Pope Francis, it is clear that the churches are emptying. How to explain such a collapse of the Catholic Church?
